Tim Wood's backyard swap meet on August 26th in Albany, Oregon brought together old time collectors and beginners who got their first insulators at his show. Bill Vincent showed off Thomas insulators, a new love affair for him. While Tim, Mike Swanson, Scott Morrell and Howard Banks put together a combined display of old favorites... EC&M's, Cal Elec Works, and C.E.W. insulators.

Roy Gollihugh, who was active in the hobby in the late '60's and early '70's, made a surprise appearance. He attended the first half-dozen or so national shows. Meanwhile, some neighborhood kids got curious about what was going on. They dropped in to ask questions, were given insulators by several folks, and walked away as our hobby's newest collectors.

This warm, summer day will be remembered for what "backyarders" are best known for... renewing old friendships and creating new ones.

Some neighborhood kids dropped by to see what was going on. 
They were given a box full of insulators; some encouraging words; 
and left with treasured items that an hour before they never even knew existed.

Mike Swanson and show host Tim Wood visit with early day collector Roy Gollihugh. Legend has it that Roy was the first person to sell an insulator for $1,000. It happened like this: In the early '70's Roy had a Liquid insulator (CD 180) at a show. A guy walked up, looked at the piece, and remarked that he didn't suppose it was for sale. Roy replied in a sarcastic manner that he'd sell it for a thousand dollars... just to watch the result. To his surprise, the man counted out the cash and walked away with the insulator.
